[Update: The Xbox One accessibility controller is available for $100 from Microsoft.]

A wild new Xbox One controller has seemingly surfaced, and if reports are to be believed, it’s a special piece of hardware indeed. Following a leak posted by Twitter user h0x0d, Windows Central has reported that the device is designed with accessibility in mind, hence those oversized A and B buttons.

Adding to the speculation, ResetEra user baron_calamity claims to have tried a prototype a couple of years ago. “How it works: It is meant to be used with normal control. It could be used to give extra buttons like foot pedals if you have trouble reaching and activating certain buttons. The main use case is someone (caretaker/therapist) would play with the disabled person, allowing them to control certain aspects of the game while a caretaker controls the others. Also certain games that only use a couple of buttons and the d-pad the person could play the game unassisted depending on their ability.”

Some specifics for the finished build are unclear. “The giant buttons on the version I used were just buttons. They weren’t even pressure-sensitive so they weren’t great for driving games if they were replacing the triggers. If they have greater functionality in this version, that would be great.”

I’m not sure if this will make the cut for Microsoft’s E3 showcase, but that’d be something.
