Netflix doesn’t have any plans to rent out videogames

Back when Netflix was still pushing to split up its streaming service and physical-media rentals, the idea to rent out videogames was kicked around. We weren’t pleased to hear that first part — and its death was celebrated by many a Netflix subscriber — but hey, games aren’t so bad!

For better or worse, the company will not be further pursuing game rentals, according to CEO Reed Hastings. I suppose that would explain why there hasn’t been much talk regarding the subject as of late.

It’s disappointing, but expanding to offer games now seems like the wrong strategy as we increasingly move away from discs. If Netflix was going to do it, and do it right, they should have already started by now.
