Modern Warfare 3 dev tries to boost Metacritic user score

OH THE CORRUPTION! Sledgehammer Games boss Glen Schofield has been upset by the Metacritic score for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and was caught red-handed attempting to boost it via Twitter. But before we grab our pitchforks, it’s not the official reviews he’s got an issue with — it’s the swarm of raging nerds who keep bombing user reviews with 0/10 summaries.

“I don’t usually do this but, if u like MW3 go 2 Metacritic.com & help our user score,” he Tweeted. “It’s suspiciously low. Be honest but help if u agree.”

His comment was deleted after he got attacked by fans who were accusing him of “unfair boosting.” Though the Tweet is now gone, he has responded to criticism by saying that he “knows” the game deserves better than a 1.7/10. It’s hardly a Cliffy B situation, right?

I think Schofield’s biggest mistake was in regarding user reviews with anything other than amused contempt. They should only ever be used for entertainment purposes, since user reviews are so melodramatic that everything’s either a 10/10 or a 0/10, usually depending on whether they like the publisher or not. Because that’s what this has all come down to at the end of the day.
