Microsoft: Nobody bought Xbox 360 faceplates

Being able to customize your Xbox 360 may sound like a good idea, but when it comes down to paying for the privilege, it appears that gamers would rather spend elsewhere. Microsoft has admitted that nobody bothered to buy 360 faceplates, and the accessory is being phased out.

“We don’t ever create an accessory with the intent of having it fail,” says global marketing boss Albert Penello. “The idea wasn’t bad … people used to put faceplates on their cell phones. Rewind five years, faceplates were what everybody wanted to do.

“Turned out nobody bought it. So [we stopped] making them. We killed that one pretty quickly.”

Considering how much people love to personalize their things, I’m somewhat surprised they did that badly. But then, I kept seeing nice faceplates but preferred to spend my cash on actual videogames, so I guess it’s perfectly understandable.
