The newĀ Melty Blood: Type LuminaĀ launches in just a few days, but today developer French Bread announced another combatant coming to the fighting game. Saber, as seen in theĀ Fate series, will be a fighter inĀ Melty Blood: Type Lumina.

It’s not too much of a reach for a guest character appearance, considering bothĀ FateĀ andĀ Tsukihimeā€”the visual novelĀ Melty BloodĀ is based onā€”are both written by Kinoku Nasu. (They’re also kind of in the same universe, but that’s a complicated topic.)

Saber’s appearance inĀ Melty Blood is also exciting because it’s been a while since she guested in Nitroplus BlasterzĀ and even longer since the dedicatedĀ FateĀ fighting game,Ā Unlimited Codes. Plus, it’s a pretty good adaptation of her; she’s got the invisible blade that can turn into the golden sword Excalibur, and plenty of fast, powerful sword moves.

Melty Blood: Type LuminaĀ is the latest version ofĀ Melty Blood, a fighting game with a cult following based off the visual novelĀ Tsukihime. Developed by French Bread, who also makes theĀ Under Night In-BirthĀ series, it’s a series of fighting games pretty full of action-packed anime brawling.

It’s also just a new fighting game to check out though, which is always exciting. It missed the date to be included in any of the Evo 2021 Online festivities, but who knows? It’d be cool to see someĀ Melty BloodĀ on stage next year. And with both a newĀ Guilty GearĀ and ongoing games likeĀ Dragon Ball FighterZ, plus rollback updates to older games coming through, it’s been a pretty good time for anime fighters.

Melty Blood: Type LuminaĀ drops on Sept. 30, 2021 for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
