Medal of Honor isn’t dead, it’s just having a nap

EA to focus on Battlefield for a couple years

Electronic Arts laid the Medal of Honor series to rest a couple weeks ago. The publisher cited Medal of Honor: Warfighter‘s the poor critical and commercial showing as the driving force behind the decision to set the series aside. That, however, doesn’t mean the series is gone for good. EA chief creative director Richard Hilleman alleviated fears of such a possibility in a recent interview with Rock Paper Shotgun.

“We don’t think Medal of Honor’s performance speaks to any particular bias in that space against modern settings or World War II or any of that. It’s much more that we had some things we should’ve done better,” Hilleman said. “What we think right now is that, for the next couple years, we can just have one great thing in that space. So we’re choosing for it to be Battlefield.”

Hilleman went on to say that Warfighter suffered from a lack of creative leadership and that the series would likely make a comeback when EA has the time and personnel to deliver a quality product. As someone who was excited by the prospect of a follow-up to the 2010 series reboot but disappointed in its execution, this news pleases me a great deal. I’m willing to be patient if the end result is worth the wait.
