The best part of Wave Race 64 coming to Switch is the music

Wave Race 64

It gets to live on in a new era

Wave Race 64 ruled the roost in so many houses across the world, and now, over 20 years later, it’s back via Nintendo Switch Online.

Set to arrive on the service on August 19, Wave Race 64 joins a smallish group of Nintendo 64 classics that are all part of the “Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack” family. While the rate of games is incredibly slow, the choices have been fairly on-point most months, especially when it comes to this beloved oddity.

I mean, the intended effect of putting a lot of these games on modern platforms is…content and adding value to a subscription service. But games like Wave Race 64 just highlight how many franchises Nintendo is sitting on and doing nothing with. It’s been over 20 years since we’ve seen a true sequel, and a return could easily work as a downloadable arcade-esque game. Just announce it at a Nintendo Direct, potentially during E3, and you’re good to go.

You can watch the trailer below! Speaking of, these types of trailers rule, because they’re bringing old games back in a new way. It’s a different type of game preservation, and I dig it.
