How to turn on first-person mode in Fortnite

It’s always about the options

Something great about Fortnite is that Epic Games is always giving players new options to enjoy playing its experiences. Whether it be removing the building for those who don’t like it or even the possibility of a Fortnite first-person mode, these enhance the game considerably.

Can you turn on first-person mode in Fortnite?

Lately, there has been a lot of talk about a Fortnite first-person mode that shifts the entire perspective from behind the shoulders third-person to a first-person point of view. Unfortunately, first-person mode doesn’t fully exist in the battle royale game yet as of the launch of Chapter 4 Season 2.

There was previously a method of forcing it to happen, but it no longer exists. That said, the existence of a FPS setting hints at a possible separate first-person mode in the future. Thankfully, some of the recent leaks from reputable leakers like HYPEX seems to suggest that, too.

But in the meantime, there is no way to permanently play Fortnite in first-person, like how it is possible in other battle royale games like Call of Duty Warzone 2.0, Apex Legends, and PUBG. Even still, there is a way to access an FPS perspective sometimes.

The only legitimate way to play in first-person these days is to use certain guns. While you won’t be able to play like this the whole time, it works when you’re aiming down the sights. Here are some of the weapons you can currently use for first-person mode:

  • All scoped sniper rifles
  • Red Eye Assault Rifle
  • Cobra DMR

There is a nice mix of both snipers and mid-range ARs that you are able to use in a FPS perspective. To do this, simply equip the weapon and then hold down the aim-down-sights button. For controller players, that is generally the left trigger, while it is the right mouse button for keyboard and mouse users.

This lets you switch to a first-person perspective while you are holding down this button. It seems that there is going to be a permanent first-person mode for every weapon in the near future. In fact, there was a secret setting that appeared recently.

It allowed users who have access to Save the World to turn on this mode and use it in battle royale. It was janky, though, and didn’t work correctly, so it was swiftly removed by Epic. This setting shows that there is hope for a true FPS mode in Fortnite, and we’ll be sure to update you once there is.
