How to put out fires in Tears of the Kingdom

Only You Can Prevent Wildfires

Recommended Videos

Much like its predecessor, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has a highly responsive open world that reacts realistically to Link’s actions. This makes it possible to apply real-world logic to overcome most obstacles encountered.

As Link progresses through his journey, players will notice that fire can be quite useful, though it is also very dangerous, which makes it useful to know how to put out fires in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. There are a few methods available, and their applicability depends on what players have at hand.

Method 1: Use Water

Hyrule looks different in Tears of the Kingdom. There are several sky islands that Link can travel between. Leaping down from them isn’t a problem, as Link can survive a fall from any height if he lands in some water. The numerous bodies of water found throughout Hyrule are also useful for putting out fires. For instance, if Link has caught alight, jumping into some nearby water will put out the flames. Sticking a burning weapon in water will also extinguish it.

Method 2: Rain

Occasionally, it will rain, and this makes it hard to climb. The rain is also good for putting out fires, including enemies which are on fire, such as the Fire Keese. The downside to this method is that players have to wait for rain, which isn’t always convenient. Sitting by a campfire allows players to skip to a different time of the day.

Method 3: Ice Weapons

The most reliable way to put out flames is to use an ice weapon. This can be done, for example, by shooting ice arrows at a fire. It takes a while before ice weapons are encountered. Fortunately, there is one more method available.

Method 4: Chuchu Jelly

Chuchus are monsters that are fairly ubiquitous in Hyrule. When they are defeated, they leave behind jelly which has many uses. Blue Chuchus are the most common, and the Chuchu Jelly they produce can be used to extinguish flames. Simply place one near a flame and strike it. When it is struck, it explodes in a splash of water that extinguishes any nearby flames. The same can be done with White Chuchu Jelly which can be obtained from Ice Chuchu. It can also be made by striking regular Chuchu Jelly with an ice weapon.

There are some methods that seem intuitive but, surprisingly, don’t work. For example, Link can’t blow out flames using a korok leaf or sail. Link will also explore places that are too hot to bear, and this will require him to come up with some creative solutions, including crafting elixirs. With the right tools and strategies, players will always have a way to beat the heat.
