The Matilda handgun in the Resident Evil 4 remake is a unique weapon. Instead of firing just one bullet, Leon can sling out three at a time. That said, finding the Matilda handgun will require you to go through a significant part of the game. Here’s where to find this weapon.

To find the Matilda handgun in the Resident Evil 4 remake, you’ll need to progress through the story until you hit Chapter 8. Just after you first split up from Ashley, you’ll find a purple lantern next to a wooden door. You’ll be greeted by your trusty typewriter and the Merchant on the right.

Speak to the hooded figure and select “Trade.” He’ll have new wares to give you in exchange for your well-earned Spinels. As a refresher, you’ll receive this currency by finishing side missions like exterminating all the rats and shooting every blue medallion in one area. To get the Matilda handgun, you will need to give the Merchant 10 Spinels.

Is the handgun worth the price?

The Matilda handgun is not worth the price of 10 Spinels. The three-bullet burst is only available with the Matilda stock (a part you have to buy in Chapter 11 for 12 Spinels). The power of one bullet is outranked by the superior Red9 that can be picked up for free.

You also don’t want to waste your ammo, especially in a survival horror game like Resident Evil 4. With the three-round burst the Matilda unleashes, your ammo stock will deplete quickly. The two positive aspects of this gun are the reload speed and higher precision, but for most close encounter fights, it pales in comparison to its fellow handguns.
