Salt is an extremely helpful resource in Subnautica 2 if you’re looking to unlock better food and water options. While you won’t find any in your Lifepod’s immediate surroundings, a bit of traveling and spelunking will lead you right to a few helpful salt deposits.

Where to find Salt in Subnautica 2

The best way to obtain salt early on in your playthrough is to follow Subnautica 2’s storyline until NOA tells you to find Chap’s black box. You can find this location 220 meters southeast of your Lifepod, with several stone pillars representing its location.

After visiting the Angel Comb that unlocks digestion and gives you Anita’s whereabouts, you’ll uncover a new POI labeled “Blackbox – Chap”. Head toward the two stone pillars in this direction to find a secret cave underneath their base.

Since the cave is deep, be sure to upgrade some of your equipment, particularly your fins, and equip some mods at the Bio Lab near the Lifepod. You can also swim into Chap’s room if you start running out of oxygen, or grab bubbles from nearby Oxygen Tunics.

Within this cave, you’ll find Chap’s room, containing a databank log that you’ll need to interact with to progress in Subnautica 2’s story. You’ll also find several items, such as a Biobed, Repair Tool, and Bioreactor, which you can scan to progress toward unlocking new blueprints.

Outside of this room, you’ll spot several salt, silver, and copper deposits. Salt appears as small, pale pink crystals on the ground that you can pick up and store in your inventory or a portable storage locker if you have one. It’ll respawn after some time, so keep this location in mind for the future.

Alternatively, if you’ve progressed far enough into your playthrough to unlock Heat Tolerance, you can head farther southeast until you reach a volcanic region. Similarly, you can find more by progressing beyond this point—about 500 meters away from the Lifepod—to until you spot larger deposits near some dead coral. Your best bet is to wait until you’ve unlocked vehicles such as the Tadpole to access these areas quickly without running the risk of aggressive fish attacking you.
