How to find and use Surf Cube in Fortnite Chapter 6, season 3

It's a powerful traversal tool.

There are lots of epic superhero items you can find around the island in Fortnite Chapter Six, season three. One of the most useful ones for getting around quickly is the Surf Cube, so it’s a strong item to have in your inventory once you know where to find it.

With so many items available to find around the island, tracking down the Surf Cube can be tough. It’s also a tricky item to get used to since there’s nothing else like it, so here’s how to find and use the Surf Cube in Fortnite.

The Surf Cube can randomly be found anywhere around the island, like most other loot. If you want a guaranteed chance of finding one, though, you can meet up with Lightrider to buy one.

Lightrider can be found hanging out slightly south of Shiny Shafts. She’s one of the many NPCs you can find around the island and has one Surf Cube for sale in each round, which costs 300 gold bars. It’s not too pricey, but it’s a bit tough to earn gold this season, so you may need to work on saving up for it. Since she’s only got one for sale, you also need to be the first character to grab it, otherwise you’re out of luck.

If you don’t have the gold bars required or don’t get to Lightrider first but still want to add this item to your inventory, get to work looting around the island to find it. You have a better shot at acquiring it if you take on certain challenges, like damaging Overlord Spires and Scout Spires. Opening hero caches as you increase your hero rank is another great way to find this item. Otherwise, you just have to loot around the island until you’re lucky enough to find one.

How to use Surf Cube in Fortnite

The Surf Cube is solely a traversal item and has no battle capabilities. If you’re looking for a strong item to use in battle, you’ll need to find one of the many weapons in Chapter Six, season three instead.

This item has two fairly simple functions, both of which are displayed near the bottom left edge of the screen while hovering over or using this item. The two abilities you can use are:

  • Start/stop surfing: Allows you to jump on or off the Surf Cube board as desired. While you’re on it, you’ll hover slightly off the ground and move around much more quickly.
  • Flight mode: Temporarily allows you to soar up high into the air. This ability essentially gives you a big boost upward and forward, lasting for a bit before bringing you back down to hover just off the ground.

The Surf Cube has a total durability score of 150, which decays over time as you use it. You can keep an eye on this number while using it to strategically save for when you might really need it. It doesn’t decay super fast, but if you use it a lot without watching the durability, it’s easy to end up breaking and losing this item.

With a powerful new way to get around the island, you can now get to work tackling quests all around it. Some good ones to work on are hitting hero practice targets at different hero training outposts, assembling surveillance gear at Demon’s Domain, and copying the actions of Morgan Myst’s shadow proxies.
