How to complete Destiny 2: Whispers of the Taken 2 quest

These Whispers are getting louder, but they're saying the same thing.

Destiny 2‘s Into the Light update rolls on into Week 2, and the Whisper of the Worm Exotic sniper rifle grows stronger. Whispers of the Taken‘s second week is much like the first, only asking for triple the Taken Essence and for players to go deeper in search of Blights.

The Whisper is an old Destiny 2 Exotic mission returning as part of Into the Light. The Whisper was where the Whisper of the Worm Exotic sniper rifle initially came from. Now, the Exotic mission reintroduces the gun as a customizable crafting option. Even after earning the right to Shape the weapon, players can still make Whisper of the Worm more powerful.

Whispers of the Taken quests will appear over the first three weeks of Into the Light, offering new Perks for the Exotic sniper rifle so long as Guardians can survive return delves into The Whisper on Legend difficulty.

Before players begin Whispers of the Taken 2, they’ll need to complete another quest first, Whispers of the Past. This quest is given by Eris Morn on the Moon and serves as an introduction to The Whisper Exotic mission. To complete the quest, players must launch into The Whisper and complete it on any difficulty.

With Whispers of the Past completed Guardians are rewarded with a red-bordered Whisper of the Worm Exotic sniper rifle. Players can dismantle or extract the weapon’s blueprint by interacting with the Deepsight slot on the Exotic. This allows players to Shape or Reshape Whisper of the Worm, which is necessary to apply Perks earned through the Whispers of the Taken quests. With the prelude complete, a return to Eris on the Moon opens up Whispers of the Taken.

Taken Essence enemy drops and Blights

Like Whispers of the Taken 1, the first stage of the quest asks players to collect Taken Essence. Instead of ten, Whispers of the Taken 2 requires 30 Taken Essence. As before, any Taken enemy can drop Taken Essence, and defeating a Taken seems to have around a 50/50 chance of dropping one. A painless way for players to get those Taken Essences quickly is to load into the Prophecy Dungeon. There are swarms of Taken Thralls and Taken Knights right at the start, so it shouldn’t take long before Guardians move on.

Whispers of the Taken 2’s next step again asks Guardians to locate and destroy Taken Blights in The Whisper Exotic mission. As with Whispers of the Taken 1, these Blights can only be destroyed with the Whisper of the Worm. The Blights for Whispers of the Taken 2 are a bit further into the Exotic mission, but they’re easier to spot than the previous set.

Once Guardians reach the “green room” (the room filled with rubble and patches of grass), they’ll want to stop just before dropping into the area. From this vantage point, all three Blights can be seen. The first two should be ahead in plain sight, with one slightly lower than eye level and the other above it. The final Blight is inside the circular opening in the far wall. It’s hard to spot with the naked eye, but looking down the Whisper of the Worm’s scope will make it easy to pick off.

Complete The Whisper on Legend difficulty

Now that the Blights have been destroyed, players only have to complete The Whisper on Legend difficulty to finish Whispers of the Taken 2. If Guardians have already completed Whispers of the Taken 1, they know what they’re in for. If not, Legend isn’t too tricky with a coordinated Fireteam, but players only have 20 minutes instead of Normal’s 40.

Players should avoid trying to clear Legend while hunting for Taken Essence and the three Blights. Obtaining the Essence and then hunting down the Blights makes more sense. Once the Blights are eliminated, reset the Legend run for a clean run against the 20-minute timer.

Returning to Eris unlocks the ability to Shape or Reshape the No Distractions Perk onto the Whisper of the Worm. No Distractions offers a 35% resistance to Flinch after looking down the scope for one second. The Perk remains active for as long as Guardians remain looking down their scope.
