Hey, what’s your wallpaper right now?

Gaming-related or otherwise

You can tell a lot about someone from their choice in wallpaper or can you? I’m not sure I want to know the answer to that question. But I do know that I always have and probably always will get a kick out of seeing the images that friends, coworkers, and especially strangers use as their backgrounds.

I’ll go first for this Destructoid community show-and-tell. But you’re up next!

I use two monitors side-by-side and that means any wallpaper concept or theme I choose needs to look good stretched way the heck out. Some images are way too small; others are big enough, but look lopsided. To get exactly what you want, you kind of have to go in expecting to make alterations. That goes double if you’re hoping to end up with a seamless multi-monitor image. Mine isn’t that neat.

I got the idea to go searching for hand-painted backgrounds from animated films, something I very much recommend if you need a change of scenery. There’s a treasure trove of intricate landscapes waiting out there. The hunt eventually brought me to Pom Poko, a folklore-inspired Studio Ghibli movie about tanuki. I don’t have any particular attachment to Pom Poko, but the art stands on its own.

I stitched two separate scenes together like so. They aren’t blended, but it’s cohesive enough as is.

My wallpaper reminds me to unglue my eyes from the internet and poke my head outside to enjoy fresh air and nature, even if it’s only for a couple of minutes. I’ve had it for over a year and I still adore it.

But what about you? What’s your current wallpaper and how’d you end up on it?
