Hacked Kinect used to play Super Mario Bros. 1

Here’s yet another video of someone using Kinect to do something awesome. Using a PC and some custom-written code, this young man is playing Super Mario Bros. 1 with Microsoft’s new un-controller.

The controls look a little less responsive than a similar game featured on Wii Fit Plus, but still, this guy manages to do about as well in the game as I did the first time I played Super Mario Bros. 1 with a traditional controller… when I was about ten-years-old. From a gameplay standpoint and a hacking skills standpoint, that’s a good first start. I can’t wait to see what other uses hackers find for Kinect, and if Microsoft will ever put them to “official” use.
