Guerrilla: Motion control will be in most FPS games

Killzone 3 is among the first 360/PS3 shooters to embrace motion control, with full PlayStation Move support. Developer Guerrilla believes this is but one step toward a waggle-scented future, with motion control destined to become the norm.

“You lose some of the accuracy when rotating, that becomes more difficult,” said principal programmer Tommy de Roos. “But you make up for that by being able to point anywhere on the screen and send your bullets flying there. So it’s a trade-off and a lot of hardcore gamers are seeing that and actually some of them are starting to prefer playing with the Move.

“These are just the initial stages. Nintendo did a lot of research there, we did some research there now and it’s slowly progressing. I think, as this develops, in a few years most of the first-person-shooters will be played like this. I really think so. Maybe not the Move specifically but a pointing controller like this.”

I suppose we shall see. As I noted in my Killzone 3 review, Move is not my preferred method of input in the least, and I don’t relish a world full of such control schemes. What about you, though? Do you want a future where your arm never stops pointing at drawings of space Nazis?
