Gas Powered Games is now working on a free-to-play MMO

Studio tentatively renamed Wargaming Seattle

Although Wildman went unfunded on Kickstarter, I was still interested to see if Gas Powered Games could (and would want to) continue working on the project following the studio’s acquisition by free-to-play powerhouse Wargaming. Speaking to Polygon, GPG CEO Chris Taylor said that Wildman is no longer being developed, though he did share details on what’s next.

Gas Powered, now tentatively renamed Wargaming Seattle, is building a “free-to-play, triple-A MMO with PvP,” explains Taylor. It seems at least some laid-off employees were brought back on, which is of course great to hear. “We went down to less than ten people, but we’re back up to 30 now, and that number continues to grow.”

Recounting the acquisition, Taylor says that “It’s not a publisher acquiring a developer. It’s a developer acquiring a developer […] There was a 99 percent overlap in terms of company culture, genre choices, and leadership.”
