Game Republic has closed its doors?

Game Republic, the studio behind such original titles as Folklore and Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, has sadly disappeared from the face of the earth.

The company’s website has been taken offline and its Tokyo offices are vacated. Without so much as a one-line announcement, it would appear that Game Republic has closed down in the most tragically whimpering way possible.

It is rumored that studio founder Yoshiki Okamoto has incurred a huge amount of debt and has proven almost impossible to track down.

As a huge fan of Game Republic, I find this news pretty sad. I always felt the studio got an unfair rap, as even if its games weren’t always the most polished, they were at least original and fun. Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom was an unsung hero of last year, and I’m sad the company won’t get to make another.
