Sweet slumber

A few weeks back we mentioned that Metal Gear Solid series composer Norihiko Hibino was launching an album of game music tracks arranged and performed live to relax and sleep to. Prescription for Sleep: Game Music Lullabies is now available, and true to its name, it features selections from titles as diverse as Super Mario 64 and Final Fantasy VII to Demon’s Souls and Donkey Kong Country in dreamy saxophone and piano.

Destructoid readers may be interested to hear that they had a hand in the creation of the album, as Scarlet Moon Records producer Jayson Napolitano tells us: “I had written a top ten list of game music tracks to sleep to on Destructoid last year, and the feedback I received in the comments not only inspired the album, but also several of the track selections.”

If this first offering does well, Napolitano tells us he’d like to produce a second volume, and as he did with this one, would love to hear from fans as to which tracks they think should get the lullaby treatment.

Prescription for Sleep: Game Music Lullabies is available on Loudr  for $10, and may just prescription you need for those long, sleepless nights. I can’t recommend it enough. This is easily one of the best and most beautiful arranged game music albums I’ve heard in a very long time.
