Gabe Newell brands Windows 8 a ‘catastrophe’

Ouch.

Whilst I haven’t had a hands-on with Microsoft’s upcoming OS, Gabe Newell was brutally honest when asked about his feelings on Windows 8 at an annual videogame conference in Seattle.

Making a rare public appearance at Casual Connect in Seattle, the Valve head honcho (and noted knife enthusiast) told former Microsoft VP of game publishing Ed Fries: “I think Windows 8 is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space. I think we’ll lose some of the top-tier PC/OEMs, who will exit the market.”

As you can imagine, Gabe praised the openness of the PC platform as part of Valve’s success, weighed in on touch-screen controls and why Valve wants the 2,500+ games on Steam to be playable on Linux platforms. Gabe also casually mentioned the $70,000 wearable computer that Valve has built … wait, what?
