Dotemu has announced the arrival of a new content update for 2022’s Windjammers 2. While two new characters may seem like the most substantial addition, the fact that it’s getting a long-overdue tutorial mode is probably the most important.
I reviewed Windjammers 2 back at launch and thought it was okay. Above-average, mainly helped by its reasonable asking price. However, there were a lot of areas that needed more love. In particular, the game had no tutorial. Instead, it gave you a PowerPoint presentation on the basics, then shoved you out the door to compete with no experience. With the update, there will be a lessons mode, as well as a simple practice. I really can’t believe it’s taken this long.
Speaking of long overdue, the update also comes with crossplay and lobbies. The press release notes that the rankings will be wiped along with these additions, so you’ll need to warm your Frisbee arm back up if you want to climb to the top.
Beyond that, two new characters are being added to Windjammers 2. The first is Anna Szalinski from Poland. She’s a weightlifter, and I really dig how one of her idle animations is to drop and do pushups. The second character is a bit more exotic. It’s the android Jamma GX03 who looks cool and is compatible with the semi-universal standard for amusement machines.
The update for Windjammers 2 is available today on PC and consoles. For the next two weeks, the base game will be marked down 50% on Steam, Nintendo eShop, and with a PlayStation Plus subscription.
