FF Type-0, 3rd Birthday director talks sequel potential

After recently wrapping up his work murdering chocobos in Final Fantasy Type-0Square Enix man Hajime Tabata has begun to discuss what his next project might be. In an interview in this week’s Famitsu, the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and The 3rd Birthday director revealed that while his plate is clean at the moment he has some ideas of what he’d like to work on next.

If Tabata had his druthers, he’d like to work on a console game or a sequel to Parasite Eve spin-off, The 3rd Birthday. And while he’s come up with some ideas for the latter, he believes it is more likely that Square will soon have him working on something else — specifically the follow-up to Type-0 that is already in the works. Tabata says response to the Type-0 has been positive, considering it is the first entry in a new series. And while sales have been good, he’d like the game to do better.

You know, Square, an international launch might help with that. I’m going to go on a limb and say that Americans and Europeans might just be willing to purchase something called Final Fantasy. Personally, I’m a little more interested in the prospect of another Parasite Eve game. While The 3rd Birthday might not have been the ideal progression for the series, I still enjoyed the it. Let’s just hope it isn’t another decade before we see Aya Brea again.
