This is going to be quick and hyperbole-filled.

After the Nintendo press conference, Jim Sterling and I made our way to a section at the back of the theater where some lovely ladies were letting us demo the Nintendo 3DS.

The actual games are on the show floor, but they showed us a demo of sorts that shows off the new handheld device’s technology. Moving images from famous Nintendo franchises faded in and out, from Mario to Pikmin, Metroid to Zelda.

In a word, the technology was amazing. Actually, amazing doesn’t even begin to describe what Jim and I just saw. Even Jim Sterling looked at me and couldn’t believe what he was seeing. The hype is correct: 3D. No glasses. The images do not just fall back into the screen as some people thought. They come out at you. IN 3D! WITH NO GLASSES! It is absolutely surreal.

And attention should also be given to the quality of the graphics. They were stunning. I would say Wii-level, at the very least. The images were polished, colorful, and, most importantly, bright. They were popping (literally!) off of the screen.

The show floor opens in a few minutes. I can’t wait to try out some of the games on the Nintendo 3DS. You all are not ready. It is truly incredible.
