Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered brings the iconic gameplay back with more polished visuals, and you can wreak havoc with your Officers. While you get a healthy number of options right out the gate, you can unlock more by grinding as you play.
In this guide, I will discuss which Officers are worth your time, and which are best avoided.
Disclaimer: I have only included starter Officers in this guide, but I will add more as we go.

Complete Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered tier list
To separate all the available officers, I have used three different tiers. Take note: I may add an additional tier once I unlock more Officers. If you’ve yet to unlock all of the starter Officers, have a look at this guide.
- S-tier Officers are the best possible choices in all types of fights.
- A-tier Officers will require their 4th weapons unlocked.
- B-tier Officers will require immense patience and skill to master how they work.
S-tier
| Name | Reason |
|---|---|
| Zhang He | One of the best Officers for beginners since he offers great speed, good damage potential, and, most importantly, crowd control. You can also use his claw to stagger enemies, and his pace adds immense usage potential in any game mode. |
| Guan Yu | Compared to Zhang He, Guan Yu might be slow, but that doesn’t make him weak. He has one of the strongest attacks in the game, and he can escape high-pressure situations. As long as you position yourself correctly, you won’t face many issues. |
| Sun Shang Xiang | When you’re just starting to play the game, you’ll want to use characters with good AoE, and she excels at that. With amazing speed, you can clear waves at immense speeds. You can also play pretty aggressively with her, which is something I totally enjoyed. |
A-tier
| Name | Reason |
|---|---|
| Xiahou Dun | While Dun might be the best all-rounder in the starting roster, he doesn’t excel in any area. He has good offensive potential that’s balanced well by his defense. With easy skills and combos, he is a dream pick for beginners. However, you’ll want to use more specialized Officers later in the game. |
| Zhao Yun | Similar to the previous entry on this tier, Zhao Yun is a well-rounded character. His spear gives long range for you to maintain distance from the enemies. However, his base damage feels lower (compensated by his longer reach), and so does his movement speed. He is still a really good choice for beginners. |
| Zhou Yu | While Zhou Yu has good mobility and CC abilities, his combos are slightly tricky to master. You can easily miss his charged attacks if you’re not aiming properly. However, he has a really versatile kit, and you can adopt a dynamic playstyle with him. |
| Huang Gai | If you’re someone who is purely focused on power, he is an excellent choice. However, Huang is slower than all other characters listed above him. His slow pace will be an issue against Officers who thrive on speed. |
B-tier
| Name | Reason |
|---|---|
| Zhang Fei | I really love his power and crowd-clearing abilities. His Musou raises his potential and makes him even stronger. However, he is awfully slow, which makes him weak against most other Officers in the game. |
| Dian Wei | Just like Zhang Fei, he has no shortage of power, but his speed is a major letdown. It’s almost impossible to navigate with him in higher difficulties. |
