Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire to fill the Wii’s action-adventure void

Recommended Videos

If there is one thing that is going to make the Wii the console to beat this generation, it’s going to be how much high quality original content developers are able to throw at it. Not to be confused with endless ports or mini-games that let you waggle the Wiimote around; I’m referring to honest-to-goodness single-player goodies.

After viewing the above trailer for Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire, such a game appears to be coming Nintendo’s way. Looking a bit like Rygar mixed with God of War and The Legend of Zelda, Dragon Blade tells the story of a young adventurer who seeks six legendary pieces of the “Dragon Blade,” each infused with the soul of a different guardian dragon. Vanquishing evil requires an epic quest in which to seal away six dragons — all the while absorbing their abilities ands souls in the process.

Speaking to IGN, Sam Guilloud, product manager for D3 Publisher of America wanted to let everyone know that they plan on filling the void that the Wii currently has:

“We really want the player to have an arcade experience by just getting involved in the game. We want them to feel like they’re the ones kicking ass, rather than spending too much time looking for ‘jars of honey,’ playing mini-games, or doing side quests. It’s about getting them involved in the game, and letting them really take it to the enemies. There’s really not a lot of content on the Wii that’s actually ‘action-oriented.’ There’s a ton of family games and casual games, a lot of sports titles and first-person shooters, but there isn’t really a good hack-‘n-slash game that lets people go nuts and really kick ass.”

Now that’s an attitude even Reggie Fils-Aime would be proud of. Make sure to keep an eye out for this game as E3 fast approaches. Something tells me we might be hearing a lot more about it, and soon.
