Destiny 2’s second Into the Light stream puts weapons in the spotlight

Into the Light will pop off with returning sunset weapons.

Bungie delivered its second of three livestreams centered around the Into the Light update for Destiny 2 today. In it, the studio focused on reintroducing players to the spruced-up armaments returning to the game. While the first stream showed players the new Onslaught horde mode, stream two was all about the rewards.

Into the Light is a free content update hitting Destiny 2 on April 9. Though the update is meant to help alleviate the delay of The Final Shape, it’s proving to be filled with delightful surprises. Bungie first showed off Into the Light‘s main course, a new horde mode for the game called Onslaught. Now, the studio is diving into how players will be rewarded for their time with the new content.

To bring the fight to The Witness and defend the Last City, Lord Shaxx has opened up his Brave Arsenal of weapons. This means that certain iconic weapons, both still available and previously sunset, will see a glorious return alongside reworks.

How will players earn Into the Light rewards?

Bungie detailed what the loot chase will look like for Guardians playing Into the Light. And the update features some ways for players to push the hunt for specific weapons in their favor. In the new Hall of Champions social space, players can visit Arcite 99-40 to nab quests pertaining to specific weapons.

After completing the quest, the weapon will become a part of the loot pool, and Guardians will receive a drop with a curated roll. Players will also unlock Attunement for that weapon. Attunement is a new feature built into the Hall of Champions that allows players to make one weapon more likely to drop.

On top of the direct rewards earned through Onslaught, Bungie also showed off a chest in the Hall of Champions, where players can trade for even more weapons. Into the Light will introduce a currency called Trophies that will be earnable through Onslaught. Players can then spend their Trophies back at the Hall of Champions, hopefully with some increased luck thanks to Attunement.

What weapons make up the Brave Arsenal?

Bungie describes the Brave Arsenal as “a whole set of weapons from across Destiny‘s history. A few recent ones, most of them are from earlier in D2 history.” The studio described that narrowing down the Brave Arsenal was tough. Some inclusions were made because of the evident popularity of a retired weapon, but others were included to allow all players access to some formerly Raid-exclusive heavy hitters. The weapons that make up the Brave Arsenal are:

  • Blast Furnace
  • Hung Jury SR4
  • Succession
  • Midnight Coup
  • The Recluse
  • Mountaintop
  • Luna’s Howl
  • Elsie’s Rifle (formerly The Stranger’s Rifle from the original Destiny)
  • Forbearance
  • Edge Transit
  • Falling Guillotine
  • Hammerhead

Each of these weapons will feature updated and revised Perk pools. Sometimes, that means creating insanely powerful rolls like Explosive Payload and Kinetic Tremors on Midnight Coup. It also means that Bungie had a chance to tone down the overpowered perks that essentially forced sunsetting into effect. Many returning weapons won’t be overpowered like they originally were, but new Perk pools offer the possibility of new power fantasies.

Limited edition weapon variants

Up until the launch of The Final Shape, players participating in Into the Light can earn limited edition variants of the Brave Arsenal weapons. These variants come pre-equipped with an Ornament that gives the weapon a sleek new look. The Ornament Shader cloaks the weapon in a rippling greenish-black metallic shader that gives way to gold at the tip of the gun’s barrel.

The curated roll players get from completing a Brave Arsenal quest will be one of these limited edition variants, and Bungie mentioned there’s another way to get them, too. As the curated rolls typically aren’t the cracked god roll Perk combinations, players might want to hunt for another Brave Arsenal variant. The limited edition versions of the weapons are earnable through Onslaught, though Bungie stated they have a low chance of dropping.

If players manage to get a Brave Arsenal variant to drop, it’ll come with double Perk options. That’s the only advantage, other than a non-curated roll, farming these limited edition variants brings. Additionally, all versions of the Brave Arsenal weapons will be able to be enhanced once The Final Shape releases. So, once players get a Brave Arsenal weapon they like, variant or not, they’ll be able to make it even better in time to bring the fight to The Witness.
