Destiny 2 Season of the Wish overview

The Ahamkara rise again.

Even though Destiny 2 is in a bit of a rough situation right now (once again), the finale of Season 22 did deliver a curious new twist. Namely, it revealed that Savathun had been hiding a wish-dragon egg, as well as showing us how to access the Traveler’s Pale Heart.

Setting Bungie’s love for proper nouns and obscure metaphysical terminology aside for a bit, the reveals outlined above have, indeed, served as an excellent way to reveal Season 23, or the Season of the Wish. The last major piece of seasonal content to release before The Final Shape comes out in 2024 aims to unravel the truth behind the Forsaken-era Last Wish raid, which has been one of the biggest mysteries of Destiny 2‘s entire life cycle.

It’s an exciting time to be a Destiny player, then, even though the game is now on slightly shaky ground. Here’s everything we know about the Season of the Wish so far!

Destiny 2 Season 23 Overview – The Season of the Wish

Though Bungie’s already started its pre-release hype for the Season of the Wish, it’s worth remembering that the company releases infamously little information about its new seasonal content ahead of its launch. The fact that the Season of the Witch came with an integrated Wish teaser, following the completion of the entirety of the Imbaru Engine puzzle, was a standout feature all on its own.

Keeping the above in mind, then, we don’t really know all that much about the Season of the Wish as it currently stands. It will, absolutely, feature what appears to be a young Ahamkara wish dragon, as well as focusing on Awoken’s Dreaming City and, more specifically, the old Wishing Wall feature of the Last Wish raid. Bungie also graced us with a piece of official artwork showing off some of the new seasonal armor and weapons. On that front, though, we’d suggest keeping a pinch of salt at hand, just in case history repeats itself.

Aside from that, the odds are good that the Season of the Wish will delve into some deep Destiny lore that has been sitting untouched for literal years now. We don’t expect to learn what went down with the Ahamkara on Venus back in the day, but who knows?

Season of the Wish release date

Destiny 2‘s Season of the Wish is due to release on November 28, kicking off the last big season before The Final Shape comes out. Historically, the final piece of seasonal content before the new DLC has always been fairly well-received by the Destiny community, so the expectations are understandably high right now.

More specifically, the Season of Arrivals featured the immense Black Pyramid starships as they descended upon Sol, signifying the sunsetting of entire locations and planets all at once ahead of the Beyond Light DLC. Similarly, the Season of the Lost had players rummaging through the Ascendant Plane before Witch Queen, and players got the unique 30th anniversary DLC to carry them over as the release got postponed. Lightfall might’ve been a problematic disappointment in comparison to Lost, then, but the preceding Season of the Seraph certainly held its own.

This is the context in which the Season of the Wish is coming out, and since The Final Shape got delayed as well, a lot is riding on it. As it stands, more specific information about the Season of the Wish is unlikely to drop until immediately before its release, but we’ll keep this article topped up ahead of November 28.
