Dark Souls II fan feedback provides ‘a good reference’

They’re listening even though they may not change the game for you

The Dark Souls franchise has some very vocal fans. We were curious just how much feedback Dark Souls II director Yui Tanimura was taking to heart, to which we were told:

“The voices of the fans are pretty strong, we hear them a lot. We do reference them, take in those comments and feedback from the fans. Though I do try to balance. I’m sure many of those who express their voices about the game are those who play the game the most, but we try not to take in all of their feedback, because there are others playing the game who aren’t as vocal.

“We try to balance it out by asking other people who don’t voice their opinions as much and try to get their feedback as well, so that we can get a good overall feedback to base my decisions on. Obviously we won’t change the game directly according to the user’s voices, but they are always good reference.”

So there you have it. The game’s biggest fans aren’t always the most vocal, so it sounds like they’re taking the feedback with a grain of salt. Will we be most happy if we allow them to make the game they want to make, and might tweaking and adjusting based on all the feedback they receive result in a product that none of us want?
