Contra ReBirth gameplay footage explosion!

The recently announced Contra ReBirth got me very excited. Like, holding-a-Trapper Keeper-over-my-pants-area-as-I-try-to-maneuver-my-way-from-the-cafeteria-to-the-bathroom-without-anyone-from-my-classes-noticing-anything-out-of-the-ordinary excited. The WiiWare-exclusive shooter is pretty much my dream come true: A brand new Contra game that looks (and sounds!) just like my favorite action game of all time, Contra III: The Alien Wars for the Super Nintendo.

The Konami game just came out in Japan today, and, sadly, does not have a North American release planned at this time. My retro senses tell me, though, this will most likely change come E3 next month.

1UP just dropped a bunch of gameplay videos of the game in action, and, if you are anything like me, you may have to find a Trapper Keeper of your own after viewing them.

Even though the game has an odd color palette (is it just me?), everything looks and feels like the best every classic Contra game has to offer. Not only that, the music is absolutely fantastic. I watched the videos over and over again just so I could take in that magnificent Area One theme.

Hit the jump to take a look at four amazing videos showing off the game’s first two levels. There are some boss spoilers, which is something I don’t like promoting, but the footage is too darn retro-tastic to not sneak a peek. So excited!
