CD Projekt is shutting down any rumors of it being acquired. President and CEO Adam Kiciński said in a recent investor Q&A that CD Projekt is not for sale.

The question came up during the Q&A portion of CD Projekt’s Q1 2023 results. Ā The caller asked about recent rumors that Sony is interested in CD Projekt; for context, they seem to stem from aĀ DestinyĀ leaker, with a screenshot in an accompanying thread alleging PlayStation plans on “buying” CD Projekt Red.

“Nothing has changed on our end,” Kiciński said. “I can repeat what weā€™ve been saying throughout the years: CD Projekt is not for sale. We want to remain independent; we haveā€“I believeā€“an excellent strategy. For sure itā€™s not easy to execute, but itā€™s very exciting to follow our own path, so itā€™s a pure rumor.”

CD Projekt has several projects on its docket at the moment, ranging from a newĀ WitcherĀ trilogy to an expansion forĀ Cyberpunk 2077, which it has confirmed will be at the upcoming Summer Game Fest in June. The company has encountered some turbulence, like the recent layoffs and re-evaluation of Project Sirius at Molasses Flood. But from what Kiciński has asserted, it sounds like the plan is to stay independent.

Return to Night City

Phantom LibertyĀ also came up during the investor Q&A. In response to the same investor, SVP Michal Nowakowski didn’t provide any new update on a release date for the expansion. It’s currently planned for 2023Ā but doesn’t have a firm date as of this writing.

“We’ll give more details come June, so very soonā€“as we have previously mentioned in our communication,” Nowakowski said.

The expansion looks to add to Cyberpunk 2077Ā with a new story, including another celebrity appearance: Idris Elba. Since the narrative around CyberpunkĀ has shifted a bit since its rough launch, thanks to both updates and the excellent Edgerunners anime, there’s definitely some interest in seeing whatĀ Phantom LibertyĀ brings to the table.
