Capcom going ‘all out’ for next fiscal year, so probably expect lots of remakes

I’d…be ok with that

Roughly this same time last year Capcom made a vow to have remakes be a “key business activity,” and for the most part they’ve stuck to that. The good news for them is that most of them have done well, and with their catalog of classics, they could probably do this for a long time. I can’t imagine how much money they’ll make on the Resident Evil 2 remake.

But the publisher needs to think beyond that, and their manifesto in their latest fiscal report hints at that. They’ve noted the “fierce battle of survival” that will arise from the mobile market in the future (which has basically happened already), and that as a response, they will further unify their US-Japan development structure. They’ve already started doing this to an extent in terms of providing PC port help to each other.

Some of the other bits are marketing/board appeasing speak, but it’s interesting to see that they will attempt to expand in China with the help of Tencent (which they’ve already partnered with for Monster Hunter Online), and try to accommodate the provisions of the Act of Promotion of Women’s Participation and Advancement in the Workplace. A Mega Man mobile adaptation was also mentioned.

So uh, Capcom. How about putting out a remake of the first two Power Stone games on consoles, eh?
