Best Sorcerer build for Diablo 4

Mastering all the elements in all the ways

With 25 total active skills, there are many potential ways to play your Sorcerer. In fact, the class has more options than most in Diablo 4. Unfortunately, we know that not all builds are created equal. As such, there’s certainly a few better for leveling up to Level 50, and a couple that are strongest for end-game content. Let’s take a look at the Best Sorcerer build for Diablo 4.

No matter the build, you can expect to hurl magic from your fingertips as a Sorc. While classes like Barbarian and Druid have more natural tankiness, the Sorc is more of a glass cannon. In fact, we literally have a passive skill called Glass Cannon that increases both damage we inflict and receive. As such, you will want to grab some defensive skills regardless of the which skills you choose to deal your damage with.

Here are some of the best leveling and end-game builds available for Sorcerer.

Best Sorcerer leveling build in Diablo 4

In its current state, Sorcerer has a few good leveling builds. While you can certainly level with Ice Shards or Arc Lash—both are which are recommended end-game builds—I actually found Chain Lightning to be a bit more efficient than the other two.

The Chain Lightning Sorcerer focuses on the great AoE capabilities of Chain Lightning while generating your Primary Resource with Arc Lash. Both of these electric skills deal a high amount of damage and are very easy to use.

Defensively you will want to take Frost Nova, Ice Armor, and Teleport. Get used to this, as these three skills are crucial for nearly every Sorc. Frost Nova is used to crowd control enemies that get close while also applying the very important Vulnerable debuff to them. Ice Armor applies a nice barrier, making our squishy class a little less so. Teleport is arguably the best Mobility Skill in the game, allowing us to instantly put distance between us and our foes.

We round out the build with Unstable Currents. Even though it’s got an insanely long recharge timer at 70 seconds, this cooldown can be used to focus down Elite groups and Bosses.

We will put Chain Lightning in our first Enchantment Slot, and Fire Bolt in the second. Enchanted Chain Lightning essentially casts once for free automatically after casting it three times. Enchanted Fire Bolt makes it so every attack we use—including Chain Lightning and Arc Lash—inflict the Burning debuff. This synergizes extremely well with some of the Passive Skills we spend our points in later including Fiery Surge, Warmth, and Devouring Blaze.

Let’s go over exactly how you should be spending your skill points. This will include your fifty skill points obtained from levels 1-50 as well as your 10 Renown skill points.

Best Sorcerer end-game build in Diablo 4

Unfortunately, most classes in Diablo 4 are suffering from a lack of build diversity when it comes to end-game right now. And Sorcerers actually have it the worst. Essentially, there’s only two practical end-game builds for Sorcs: Ice Shards and Arc Lash. The two are actually very similar except for their core damage skill.

I personally enjoy Arc Lash more and think it’s a great follow-up to leveling with Chain Lightning.

With this build you attack very fast with Arc Lash, triggering your Ball Lightning Enchantment and popping Unstable Currents for Elite enemies and Bosses.

For defensive skills, you take all four available to you. Like the Chain Lightning leveling build, you will use Frost Nova to crowd control and apply Vulnerable to your enemies. You’ll also use Ice Armor to have a defensive barrier to counter your innate squishiness. You will take your Mobility Skill Teleport to create distance between you and your foes. Finally, you will also utilize Flame Shield which, when fully upgraded, will give you three seconds of immunity, heal you for 50% of your missing Life, and grant you a 25% movement speed buff.

To compliment your Arc Lash, you will take Ball Lightning Enchantment and Fire Bolt Enchantment. With these Enchantments, you will spawn a static Ball Lightning 25% of the time you critically strike. You will be doing that quite a bit with Arc Lash. Furthermore, Enchanted Fire Bolt makes it so every attack we use including Arc Lash inflicts the Burning debuff.

Let’s go over exactly how you should be spending your skill points. This will include your fifty skill points obtained from leveling as well as your 10 Renown skill points.
