Once you’ve reached the post-game content of Diablo 4, you’ll probably want to start farming up Legendaries and the various rare crafting materials used to reroll and upgrade your end-game items. There’s no better way to get these materials than farming the chests from Helltides.

Thanks to the Diablo 4 community over on Reddit, we’ve put together a map that includes all known Helltide Mystery Chest locations in Diablo 4.

Helltide Mystery Chest locations in Diablo 4

Using the map above, you can see each location where the chests can spawn. Even though the icon might not be at the exact location they spawn, it is in that area. If you are close enough to that location and a chest has spawned nearby, it will show up on your map. It’s very likely that more possible locations will be found over time, so we will be sure to update the map if so.

As you can see, many of these spawn points are in the later part of the game, primarily in the Kehjistan region. When encountering Helltide events be sure to keep a lookout in the area for the chests. They will automatically mark on your map once you get near them, but if you are not close enough they will not show up on your map at all.

What is a Helltide Mystery Chest in Diablo 4?

These chests are most commonly referred to as Helltide Mystery Chests as these special chests spawn in Helltide events. Their actual name is Tortured Gifts of Mystery, and they will show up on your map as such. There are weapon and armor variants of these chests, but these are not the ones you want. You want the Mystery Chest, which has the best-guaranteed resources. These chests cost a whopping 175 Aberrant Cinders to open.

Though this may seem like a lot compared to the 75-125 of the others, it is definitely worth it.

Each of the chests typically drop multiple Legendaries, Uniques, and high-level crafting materials like Forgotten Souls and Fiend Roses. The materials are to reroll and upgrade most end-game items. This is important for trying to create the best item for your build with the exact stats you want.

Specifically targeting these Helltide events and chests seems to be one the best way to get end-game items and materials, giving you the advantage over some of the late stage mobs and bosses.

When does Helltide spawn?

In order to actually find these Helltide Mystery Chests you will need to join in on a Helltide event. As of now an event starts 75 minutes after the previous one and lasts one hour. Therefore, there are about a dozen Helltide events each day. Fans have created websites to automatically track when one is active, but you can also check the world map in-game to see if one is about to start or is currently ongoing.

If you do not see the Helltide icon anywhere on your world map, make sure you are on World Tier 3 or higher. You can not access the event on World Tier 2 or below. If you see one is active, be sure to get to it and start farming your Aberrant Cinders so you can unlock some Helltide Mystery Chests for a plethora of end-game resources!

How many Helltide Mystery Chests can you open?

The amount of Helltide Mystery Chests that you can open per Helltide event varies based on the region. In the Fractured Peaks, Hawezar, Dry Steppes, and Scosglen, two of the Mystery Chests are active at a time. In Kehjistan, three chests are active at a time.

If the Helltide event is in the Fractured Peaks, Hawezar, or Dry Steppes, you can only open a total of four Helltide Mystery Chests per event.

The Scosglen and Kehjistan regions allow you to unlock up to six Helltide Mystery Chests per event. Therefore, these two regions are the best when specifically farming Helltides as it can be easy to reach the cap for each event.

Helltide Events and Helltide Mystery Chests buffed in patch 1.03 on June 27

On June 27, 2023, patch 1.03 included some pretty nifty buffs for Helltides across the board.

First and foremost, all versions of the Helltide Mystery Chests now provide substantially more bonus experience when they are opened. As such, this makes farming Helltides and their chests even more rewarding. Also, the Helltide Roaming Bosses that spawn throughout the event now consistently drop higher-quality loot. Before, it was probably more worthwhile to just skip these bosses. However, with these changes, it’s recommended to kill any roaming bosses you come across while farming Helltides for the increased chance of high-quality loot.

Can you obtain Unique items from Helltide Mystery Chests?

During their Diablo Developer Update Blizzard revealed a new update being released on July 6 that made it so Unique items could now drop for Helltide Mystery Chests.

Unfortunately, the update resulted in a bug causing the six extremely rare Uber Unique items to drop much more frequently from Helltide Mystery Chests. Uber Uniques are temporarily disabled until a hotfix rolls out on July 8 that fixes the drop rate.

Once this hotfix is in the game, Helltide Mystery Chests will undoubtedly be the best way to farm Unique items as well as the rare Uber Uniques.
