Amazon unveils new CryEngine-like Lumberyard

Amazon hasn’t really taken off in the game space yet, even after acquiring the recently-on-fire Double Helix, but it’s still trying. Its latest project actually looks pretty damn cool — a new in-house engine called Lumberyard.

It’s a free cross-platform 3D engine for developers, and boasts AWS Amazon Cloud support. Alongside of this it is providing GameLift, which is a multiplayer game service. The fees lie in the per-player costs for GameLift and any Cloud-based needs you have for Lumberyard. It’ll be interesting to see if it takes off or if anything cool is created from it.

All I know is that there’s a very Bloodborne looking mockup in the landing page (in the gallery below), so someone should so something with that.
