Sony’s decision to kill off discs back in July immediately resulted in a sort of an arms race between developers working on PS5 emulators. It’s been a few months since then, but the amount of progress made is genuinely staggering, and we seem to be writing about it every weekend at this point.
Now, it seems KytyPS5, one of the more popular emulators, has managed to make Demon’s Souls Remake fully playable start-to-finish. As shared by YouTuber
Rain Kikyou, the remake can actually be beaten now, with the game’s ending within reach for those who can run it. It’s not perfect by any means. Even in this brief video, you can clearly see the game’s running like dog water, but it’s nevertheless impressive to see a PS5-native and exclusive game get emulated to such an extent and so fast.

The user most likely has an RTX 5090 and a pretty powerful PC, if not something in that vicinity, since the emulator can barely support high framerates on anything lower than such hardware at the moment. Even so, it’s choppy, laggy, and probably very, very bugged, but all of that can easily be ironed out with just a few more weeks’ worth of effort, considering how fast the emulators seem to be developing.
I’m just still surprised by the fact that we went from games black-screening in July to running fully from beginning to end, and PS5 exclusives, no less. It’s of the utmost importance to ensure games like Demon’s Souls Remake can run well, since developing the tech to run games that aren’t available anywhere else outside of the PlayStation 5 means more exclusives and first-party Sony titles can follow with fewer headaches.
I remain optimistic that PS5 emulation will be readily available by the end of this year, and we all have to thank Sony for putting a bullet through Blu-Ray discs and forcing the industry to fend for itself through emulation (which, mind you, can preserve even digital games).
