Several new bits of online functionality were announced for Gran Turismo 5 today at the 2010 Tokyo Game Show. The My Home online section of the game includes functions like messaging, mail, logs, friend tracking features and more. The entire in-game My Home system will now be accessible via your internet browser in what Polyphony Digital calls Gran Turismo Anywhere. Everything that’s possible in My Home on your PS3 will also be possible in any web-connected web browser. You’ll be able to log into gran-turismo.com using your PlayStation Network ID. This functionality will be available at the game’s launch, November 2.
The Remote Races function of My Home is a B-spec mode of racing. It’s not a real-time gameplay, but it is something that will now work on both your PS3 and in a web browser. You’ll actually be able to participate with friends online from either. By keeping your PS3 on remote mode at home, your system will act as a server that will host games you play outside your home.
Kazunori Yamauchi said that this is the first example of gaming that bridges the worlds of console and and browser games.
