Electronic Arts could be cutting the cord on The Godfather series. The company might also be considering making more games based on the license. Paramount doesn’t know the future of The Godfather videogames and apparently Electronic Arts isn’t exactly sure either.
This is a story about mixed messages, if you haven’t caught that yet.
In an interview with the LA Times blog at E3, Frank Gibeau, president of EA Games, said EA is “not going to do another [Godfather game]” However, when LA Times checked with EA PR, a spokesperson said the future of the franchise hasn’t been decided — a statement echoed by Paramount when asked about Gibeau’s definitive statement.
Like I said, mixed messages.
If another The Godfather game is created, watch out: there isn’t much room for EA to add fiction without completely slaughtering what the license has going for it. So go ahead and expect moral choices, UFOs, dual-stick shooting, vertical cover, werewolves and zombie hordes. Also, fog. Lots of fog.
