There’s a brand new character headed to the roster of Arc System Works’ rad fighting title Guilty Gear Strive, and that means — yup — it’s time for a brand new volume in the game’s ever-expanding series of Starter Guides. So, without further ado, let’s take a quick look at the face-smashing abilities of third DLC combatant, Happy Chaos.

The sexy, gunslinging bad boy, (or, apparently “Broken Messiah”), brings his laconic, six-shooter mayhem to Guilty Gear Strive in the form of a particularly laid-back and deliberately paced fighting style, blending gun-based stances with ground-based combo strings. Happy Chaos players can literally aim and fire their weapons in free-form mode, activating a stance before transferring control to their crosshairs for sharpshooting action. Happy Chaos’ attacks are charged with both his Concentration meter mechanic as well as his ammo count, though both can be replenished during the fight.

Happy Chaos can also plant doppelgangers in order to shield him from attack for a swift reload, while his “Curse” projectile increases his shot accuracy while putting some distance between him and the opponent. Happy Chaos’ super, Deus Ex Machina, unleashes a barrage of bullets, which not only auto-reloads his firearms, but auto corrects to anywhere on the screen, no matter where your opponent moved upon activation. Happy Chaos is a mechanic-heavy character, and it will take a skillful player to master his transition between high-speed melee combat and long-distance shooting — especially in a fighter as lightning-paced as Strive.

Happy Chaos joins the party tomorrow, November 30, for all Guilty Gear Strive season pass holders. For everybody else, they will be available to purchase from December 3.
