GameStop: 360 has 2-to-1 lead over PS3 in GTA IV’s first-week sales

GameStop has revealed their first-week sales numbers for Grand Theft Auto IV exclusively to Level Up, and they’re certainly not too surprising. According to the specialty retail giant, roughly 64 percent of the copies sold were on the Xbox 360, with the other 36 percent (obviously) for the PlayStation 3.

Microsoft FTW? According to Level Up’s number-crunching, an Xbox 360 victory is not quite so clear. Comparing the NPD group numbers that indicate a 9.9 million-user Xbox 360 install base versus 4.1 million PlayStation 3s (roughly 70/30), the Xbox 360 version actually “underperformed.”

So … Sony FTW? As someone who just likes to play games, do you care about these numbers and how they might have an impact on the industry? Or are you too busy playing GTA IV — whether you’re in that 64 percent or 36 percent — to care?
