When Genshin Impact was first announced. it made waves as one of several games that decided to ape a recently released Zelda game: in this case, Breath of the Wild.

Over time people slowly saw it become its own thing, and now it’s getting ready to launch and make its mark on the world. Publisher miHoYo just confirmed this week that Genshin Impact will be fully released on September 28, on the Android, iOS and PC platforms. As a reminder, the game is still in the works for PS4, and will be “revealed at a later date.” There is zero talk of the Switch version in that same announcement date post.

I’m very wary of the free-to-play scheme, but so far the aesthetics and the soundtrack have me intrigued. We’ll find out just how playable it is beyond the existing betas (that sometimes play softball with monetization) soon enough. Cross-play and cross-progression between the trio of September 28 versions could be a good enough concession, though.
