Allison Road developer’s cancellation statement doesn’t really explain anything

It’s still a mystery

For those of you who aren’t aware of the Allison Road saga, I’ll explain it briefly.

Once upon a time, there was a game (demo, really) called P.T. It was canceled by Konami presumably out of spite for Kojima, and it, and it’s follow-up game Silent Hills, will likely never see the light of day. A developer named Lilith Ltd. decided that wasn’t acceptable, and wanted to make a game that paid homage to the idea of a true adventure horror experience. They partnered with Team17 in 2015, who bankrolled the game, and even started considering platform choices. But suddenly on June 4 of this year, the project was halted. There was no reason given, though the developers would give a statement at a later date to clear things up.

That statement came this week at E3, and it didn’t really explain the situation. In fact, this is all we got: “After a long consideration between Team17 and ourselves, we have reached a mutual agreement to end our collaboration on publishing Allison Road under Team17’s Games label. Sometime things pan out differently than expected as game development and publishing have so many layers of complexity… We’d like to especially thank everyone for their support through-out, it has and will always be appreciated!.”

We’ve reached out to Team17 for comment, and hopefully we can put this thing to bed once and for all. Some have speculated that Konami have threatened the project, and Team17 decided to distance themselves as a result. It’s also possible that the honeymoon grace period has passed in regards to the general public being outraged at P.T., and the target audience has steadily been shrinking this past year.

Either way, this thing looks dead in the water.
