Broken ass PC versions didn’t hurt Batman, Mortal Kombat sales

Arkham Knight, MKX do 5 million

Both Mortal Kombat and Batman: Arkham Knight launched with busted, largely inoperable PC versions. In the case of Batman, it was so extreme that the game was delisted for sale on Steam and is still being patched and worked on four months later (it is still unavailable for purchase).

That didn’t hurt publisher Warner Bros’ bottom line, however. The brands are just too strong.

According to The Wall Street Journal, “In the past few years, the studio has shot to the top, thanks to major hits including Batman: Arkham Knight and fighting game Mortal Kombat X, which have each sold more than five million units globally.”

Apparently WB’s movies are flopping while its games business is a big success. This year’s Dying Light, another WB-published game, was also said to have hit 5 million sales last month, which means WB is stringing hits together. Assuming Mad Max follows Fury Road windfall, the company could be having a hell of a year.
