Super Mario Maker wants to ensure you remember classic Mario levels

And then flips them on their heads

The Mario franchise holds some of gaming’s most universally well-known moments. No matter anyone’s familiarity with games, chances are they’ve seen the first level of Super Mario Bros. They might even know where that extra life is hiding early on.

Nintendo’s released a new video that shows how people playing Super Mario Maker can relive these iconic scenes. Well, sort of. Chances are you don’t remember a King Koopa followed by an inescapable fire wall in that very same first level. Still, it’s enough to evoke nostalgia and make you pine for those classic games.

Actually, Super Mario Maker might just inspire a lot of people to buy 30 years’ worth of great Mario games through the Wii U’s eShop. Solid sales tactic, Nintendo.
