GameStop recently committed a chunk of its capital to the future of the organization. The videogame retailer is making an investment in itself by helping out the people who work at the store level.

Today, GameStop announced its Power to the Scholars program — a scholarship fund for its employees that’s made up of $100,000. Between May 1 and June 19, employees can apply for one of 40 $2,500 scholarships for use in pursuing higher education. The requirements for application are that the employee must have worked at GameStop for at least one year, and have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

Power to the Scholars is an extension of GameStop’s Gamer Fund program, which offers assistance to employees facing “hardship from tragic and isolated incidents.” Gamer Fund’s president Mike Buskey commented on the scholarship effort by saying “The Power to the Scholars program will enable us to help employees achieve great things in their careers, their lives, and for their families.”
