Hotline Miami checks its voicemail

Player-submitted recordings used in latest trailer

I think it’s safe to say that the gang at Dennaton, the dynamic development duo behind Hotline Miami, have taken creative approaches to the development of their game and its promotion. One of their marketing moves was to secure a real Miami, Florida telephone number that people could call and leave voice messages with. Now, a new trailer for the game has released featuring a few of these recordings.

There is something that’s interesting about these quotes, something that separates them from the kind you might see coming from similar “quote pimp” trailers that come around every critically-acclaimed game. They aren’t entirely perfect, positive comments. When’s the last time you saw a quote which included the phrase, “I didn’t really like it?”

Meanwhile, we at Destructoid really like the game and have nominated Hotline Miami for our PC game of the year. We’re capable of bold statements about it too.
