Yakuza Restoration looks incredible

But not playable at TGS 🙁

Look at the beautiful screenshots in our gallery of newly announced game Yakuza Restoration, known here as Ryugagotku Ishin. Announced here at TGS, the game is coming to PS3, Vita, and PS4. You can bet the shiny ones are from the PS4. Wow. They look fantastic.

Our hero is back in time, taking on the roles of historical figures. Sakamoto Ryoma and Hajime Saito. This means badass costumes, lots of sword play (though guns still play a role), and some really lovely set pieces. Oh, and daikon radish pulling minigames. I guess that was a fun thing to do in 19th century Japan.

I’ll admit to being a sucker for anything Yakuza. This damned game has me so excited that I’m pissed that it’s not here on the show floor as a playable title.

I saw a theater showing of Yakuza Restoration on a TGS business day. You’ll have to wait for gameplay impressions for a bit, but I can tell you know that this game is incredible looking. I’m most excited about the combat. They’ve taken the period change as an opportunity to change it up, and what they’re showing here looks great.

I don’t need to tell you what the potential problem here is. The chances of this coming west are slim. Yakuza is already one of the most Japanese games ever. This one in particular takes that fact and turns it up several notches.

Japan gets Yakuza Restoration next year in February. Let’s start praying to the Sega gods now.
