Tripwire Interactive has announced a Game of the Year Edition for Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, and unlike how many studios tend to handle this situation, they’re putting out the new content as a free update. What’s more, the game is getting a free Steam weekend starting at 10:00am Pacific on Thursday, May 24.

The Game of the Year Edition content includes a new map, Mamayev Kurgan; an Action mode that has easier aiming, crosshairs, less recoil and damage, and wider access to weaponry; a Classic mode for long-time Red Orchestra fans; and numerous tweaks to gameplay and game performance.

For an extensive list of changes, head to the page. Tripwire has also put together a little video discussing the update and why it came about.
