Layoffs and reorganization continue at Electronic Arts

It looks like EA’s “restructuring” just keeps on going. Up to 50 staff at EA Montreal may lose their jobs. EA confirmed this, but said that many of the staff will be moved to other projects and only a “small number” will leave the company. These layoffs and changes are part of the reorganization of some teams to focus on “digital initiatives.” EA’s PR folks dismissed the layoffs as a routine change and part of the cyclical nature of game development. They claimed that the company’s headcount would be back up by the end of the year. EA Montreal developed Army of Two: The 40th Day as well as several other titles.

For all the playful ribbing I enjoy at EA’s expense, it’s never particularly pleasant to see people lose their jobs at a shitty time like this, even if it’s only a small number. One can only hope that they land on their feet and find other work.
