This Splatoon 60fps trailer is just hnnngh

Splatoon came out of nowhere, and it shot into my most anticipated list of 2015. As an unconventional shooter it looks pretty great, and the constant morphing from human to squid looks like it has a lot of value on a tactical level. Although this trailer isn't new, Nintendo has uploaded another version of it that runs at 60fps, so give it a go!

The Firefly Diary flies to PS Vita in February, 2015 photo
The Firefly Diary flies to PS Vita in February, 2015
by Kyle MacGregor

Nippon Ichi Software's htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary (yes, that's seriously the title) will launch on February 24, 2015 in North America and in Europe the very next day.

The PlayStation Vita puzzler follows a pair of fireflies helping guide a young girl through a maze of ruins. NIS president Sohei Niikawa has compared the title to an indie game in the past, it being an experimental project developed by a small team at the Disgaea studio.

The game will get a physical release via NISA's online shop exclusively in the United States.

Lucasfilm Games creative team reunites for Thimbleweed Park photo
Lucasfilm Games creative team reunites for Thimbleweed Park
by Jonathan Holmes

We were lucky enough to have Ron Gilbert (Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island) on Sup Holmes a few weeks back. Looking back, it looks like Ron may have been utilizing the show for a little pre-kickstarter promotion. Explains why he did the whole show in pixel-face. Fine by me. I'd have his pixel-faced puss on the show every week if I could.

Ron hinted that he may be working with original Maniac Mansion artist Gary Winnick again soon, but I didn't think it would be this soon. But here we are, looking at a new SCUMM-style game from the creators of term "cut scene" and the fathers of an entire genre. As a longtime fan of Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken, and the first two Monkey Island games, I'm feeling like this all over again

It's a murder mystery that contain hundreds of locations and puzzles, all centered around Thumbleweed Park, a town that "...once boasted an opulent hotel, a vibrant business district and the state’s largest pillow factory, but now teeters on the edge of oblivion and continues to exist for no real reason." Sounds like a cross between Twin Peaks and Waiting for Guffman. Outside of Ron getting the rights to make a new Monkey Island game, this is about as close to perfect as it gets for fans of classic Lucasfilm Games.

Rocksteady's really, really good at hiding Batman easter eggs

Across the Arkham titles, the developers have included at least two incredibly well-hidden easter eggs. Who could forget the one in Arkham Asylum that was so stashed away that Rocksteady itself had to reveal i...

Two years worth of work went into this Final Fantasy VII recreation in LittleBigPlanet

I love Final Fantasy VII as much as the next guy, unless the next guy is Jamie Colliver. More than two years ago we featured his work in LittleBigPlanet 2 as he had remade Final Fantasy VII up through the Temple of the Ancie...

The Blue Flamingo is a ridiculously adorable shmup

Swedish game studio Might and Delight really knows how to make games that stand out visually. Its attractive-looking paper art style on the Shelter series is, in my mind, unmistakable. I can recognize the stud...

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor looks not so good on Xbox 360 and PS3

I completely forgot Monolith was working on last-generation ports of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. The studio delayed the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game to ... today. It's available for a full $59.99...

Five Nights at Freddy's lore video is spooky

Turns out I was already behind the times when I made a goof about lore videos in my Five Nights at Freddy's 2 review. This excellent YouTube video from The Game Theorists takes a look at a possible deeper meaning behind the ...

Dragon Age: Inquisition launch trailer will make you want to play Dragon Age

This launch trailer for Dragon Age: Inquisition isn't short on anything. It doesn't skimp on gorgeous shots of the expansive universe. It has plenty of the ferocious winged serpents that adorn the franchise's namesake. ...

Japan: Now in board videogame form

Gotouchi Tetsudou is a new Wii U and 3DS game about being so filled with Japan that your blood clots into a gelatinous mass of hiragana and Sanrio. It's a virtual board game, a genre that usually needs to be dressed up a bit...

Grave is bringing its strange brand of survival horror to PS4

Grave, an unsettling desert survival horror game with shrieking boogeymen who stalk you at night, is headed to PlayStation 4 next year. I'm somehow only now hearing about this port. Broken Window Studios' modest Kickstarter ...

Narcosis: Hallucinogenic, ocean floor terror photo
Narcosis: Hallucinogenic, ocean floor terror
by Steven Hansen

I said it when I checked out Amnesia developer's SOMA early this year, but we could do with some more games set underwater. It's a scary place. There are goblin sharks down there, damn it. And you don't even have to go deep down to terrorize. Jaws spooked a generation.

The ocean is like space, but with more horrifying, alien, living organisms to kill you. Opposed to the flashy, bright monsters of SOMA, Narcosis is aiming for a (somewhat) more realistic terror.

Devolver Digital's new title Crossing Souls looks like an '80s cartoon

Part of me wishes that a game called Crossing Souls would be an Animal Crossing/Dark Souls crossover, but I am still pretty pleased with how Crossing Souls actually looks anyway. Will we ever get sick of the totally tubular ...
