Criminal Girls: Invite Only up for parole in February 2015

The Firefly Diary flies to PS Vita in February, 2015

Nippon Ichi Software's htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary (yes, that's seriously the title) will launch on February 24, 2015 in North America and in Europe the very next day.

The PlayStation Vita puzzler follows a pair of fireflies helping guide a young girl through a maze of ruins. NIS president Sohei Niikawa has compared the title to an indie game in the past, it being an experimental project developed by a small team at the Disgaea studio.

The game will get a physical release via NISA's online shop exclusively in the United States.

Review: Fairy Fencer F photo
Review: Fairy Fencer F

If you want to think outside the box, the role-playing genre may not be the perfect playground for you -- at least, when it comes to traditional Japanese titles, which generally confine themselves to a set of tried-and-true mechanics. For some, that’s acceptable. We know what we’re getting into, and what to expect. When it comes to Compile Heart’s latest, Fairy Fencer F, it’s clear that the company. famous for the Hyperdimension Neptunia series. went back to basics in order to tell its newest story of fairies, furies, and fencers.

Unfortunately, “back to basics” in this instance translates to a dull slog through menus, tutorials, and conversations interspersed with combat. And while the combat is enjoyable, there just isn’t enough of it to propel you through the slower parts.

Review: Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair photo
Review: Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc was an intelligent riff on the perils of high school -- you know, if you had thrown a murder mystery in between classes and the principal was a maniacal stuffed animal.

Its sequel, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, takes a beleaguered trope and turns it on its head. This is one "trapped on a desert island" story that takes things to another level entirely.

Review: Battle Princess of Arcadias photo
Review: Battle Princess of Arcadias
by Kyle MacGregor

A pastime needn't necessarily be transcendent to make for an experience enjoyable. So long as there's a hook, something to keep one captivated throughout the journey's duration, it's easy enough to look beyond some frayed edges and just enjoy the ride.

In the case of Battle Princess of Arcadias, the hook never really manifests. The action role-playing game casts out some nice ideas, but none are quite compelling enough to really reel one in.
